About Extension

All universities engage in research and teaching, but the nation's 100 plus land-grant colleges and universities have a third critical mission—Extension. Extension "reaches out," extending resources and addressing public needs with university resources through community based educational programs.

Extension plays an important role in American life in rural, suburban and urban settings. Extension Agents help farmers grow crops, help families plan nutritious and safe meals and help youth acquire the necessary skills to become tomorrow's leaders. Extension provides practical education you can trust to help people, businesses, and communities solve problems, develop skills, and build a better future.

Extension programs in Kansas are focused on solving grand challenges in our state around water, health, global food systems, community vitality, and developing tomorrow's leaders.
